In this keynote, Nabilah will talk about making theatre and incubating new work in an era of metacrisis, marked by techno-optimism, the erosion of trust and truth, and a reconstituted social fabric, amongst larger political shifts. Theatre, with its tools for breaking hierarchies and negotiating difference, continues to be made in rooms with diverse bodies, perspectives, and identities, even as it chafes against a capitalist economic and bureaucratic structure. Singapore theatre is a diverse community that is increasingly being atomised, especially since the pandemic years, and is only beginning to pick up the pieces. Can we break away from the structures that bind? How can minority artists still dream big and boldly? How do we survive today, and live for tomorrow?
