How does the body hold what society has taught us to hide? Following an intensive pre-conference workshop, this work demonstration presents the findings of an embodied inquiry into our shadows—the abjected, disavowed, or obscured sides of ourselves formed in response to social, cultural, and political conditions.
In this presentation, the artist and workshop participants share how the body carries what has been rendered unconscious through processes of normalisation, regulation, and social control. Moving beyond mere aesthetic representation, the demonstration reveals what emerges when we listen to bodily sensation before it becomes language or form, attending directly to the stories our bodies have been forced to silence. Through a live unfolding of somatic awareness, emotional attunement, and movement exploration, the session makes these hidden dimensions visible, legible, and felt within a shared space. Ultimately, this presentation offers a window into how shadow practice can support more grounded, connected, and present performance practices, questioning how we negotiate the unseen forces that shape our presence, intentions, and actions on stage.
