Vanasay Khamphommala (ວັນນະໄຊ ຄຳພົມມາລາ) is a French-Lao dramaturg, performer, writer and translator working at the intersection of European mythologies and postcolonial, post-gender thought. Initially trained in singing and music, she later studied English and Drama (École normale supérieure, Harvard, Oxford, Paris-Sorbonne) and trained for acting in the Classe libre at Cours Florent. Since 2018, she has developed a body of performances with Lapsus chevelü, including Invocation to the Muse, Echo, I Sing Naked in Your Living Room in Exchange for a Meal, Songs of Grief [Love Me Tender], ສຽງຂອງຍ່າ (The Voice of My Grandmother).

Her work revisits European mythological heritage from a position that is at once intimate, diasporic and critical, destabilising the idea of cultural centre and periphery. It explores voice, disappearance, erotic politics, and the persistence of images across time.

Her artistic practice unfolds across theatre, museums, public and private spaces, often in close proximity to audiences.

Vanasay Khamphommala is an artistic resident at Villa Médicis (2026-2027) and an artistic associate at Centre dramatique national d’Orléans.
